Diving into the meaning behind a name.
Lazarus, previously SetToDestroyX, came to Creative Grenade with a huge rebranding project. With this new name, we talked for a few hours about its meaning and how to best represent it in a visual way.
Religiously, Lazarus of Bethany, also known as Lazarus of the Four Days, is the subject of a prominent miracle of Jesus in the Gospel of John, in which Jesus restores him to life four days after his death.
Additionally, this was a new rebrand; the ending of one brand and the start of new. The theme of resurrection and rebirth was at the forefront of our creative thinking for this project, landing on a phoenix as the main image.
We started off with some very rough sketches to get a few ideas on paper. We don't sketch every logo depending on the style but wanted to get a few ideas here. We all liked the way #1 was shaped with the 45 degree angles.
When bringing this into illustrator, we used perfect angles and circles to form the shape of the diving phoenix. This is a design technique used to create a visually pleasing icon.
Once the logo is completed, we moved into other items including intro, jersey design, and banners.
